These easy cottagecore style faux flower arrangements are so simple and beautiful! I am in love with how realistic they look. I love their moody cottagecore vibe as well!
I will have the links for you to the exact stems I purchased or very similar ones so you can recreate the same thing in your home if you desire!
I’m also going to give some very practical tips on how to make your faux flower arrangements look real! It’s easier than you might think!
My Inspiration for Faux Flower Arragements
My inspiration for this type of simple spring time flower arrangement takes me back to my grandmother’s dried flower room. She created beautiful dried flower arrangements and it was her own little side business for a time.
I have early memories of walking into her flower room that had bunches of flowers hanging from the ceiling in their muted hues. That room had such a distinct musky, yet floral scent. Just the thought of that smell takes me right back.
Her arrangements were perfectly county. Made mostly from the flowers she grew herself on her farm, they had that perfectly rustic and homey touch.
She made dried flower arrangements for the reception table centerpieces at my wedding and it was so special. I still have some of them saved in a chest in my room!
So much of my desire to create a beautiful cozy home came from my grandma and making these faux flower arrangements brought me back to those wonderful childhood memories of her farm and her musky flower room.
Perhaps dried flower arrangements will be the next thing to try!
Simple Cottagecore Faux Flower Arrangements – Tip 1
2 stem types
All of my favorite faux flower arrangements that I’ve created generally contain just two varieties of stems:
- Stems with a bloom or berries
- Greenery filler stems
I find this formula to be so pleasing to the eye, yet minimal and clean. It creates a full, lifelike arrangement without being too much.
It’s my imagining that an authentic cottage style flower arrangement from the english countryside would be simple like this. When you stick to just one type of bloom it really maximizes the impact and let’s us thoroughly enjoy that flower’s unique beauty.
I think that is so much of what cottagecore design style is about. Using one simple thing to it’s fullest extent and enjoying it’s beauty.
Simple Cottagecore Faux Flower Arrangement – Tip 2
Varied heights
When you buy your stems they will all be the same length. However, when I’m creating these arrangements I find it looks most authentic to position the greenery at varied heights that are lower than the stems with blooms.
For the blooms, I recommend having at least 3 stems to work with. To create a beautiful shape in your faux flower arrangement you want to have your blooms positioned at 3 heights – top, middle, and low.
For a full look have those 3 blooms positioned opposed to one another. For example, if your top bloom falls little to the left, have your middle bloom fall a little to the right, and continue that pattern to your bottom bloom.
The random height of the stems lend more authenticity to the idea that you gathered these outside and clipped them at imperfect varied lengths. After all, the gathered look is what we are aiming for when comes to cottagecore faux flower arrangements.
How do I trim faux floral stems?
- Find some wire cutters or if your stems are thin enough some sharp scissors will do.
- To trim your stems to the perfect length for your arrangement, place your vase near the edge of a surface like a table or counter top.
- Hold the stem up to the vase to your desired height and trim the stem with your wire cutters to the perfect length right at the bottom of the vase.
You can also simply bend your stems and save the length if you are arranging in an opaque vase. But if your vase is clear, you will obviously create the most realistic effect if you trim the stems and they are not bent.
Simple Cottagecore Faux Flower Arrangements – Tip 3
Bend your stems
When you come home from the store with your beautiful new stems they will be very stiff and straight. Be sure you give them some bend!
For tall arrangements, I do this once the stems are in the vase. I typically start with the blooms and get them into a shape that looks realistic to me.
After the blooms, I fill in the “holes” with the greenery.
For short and wide arrangements, I fill the vase in reverse. I want the greenery to be what is reaching out low over the edge of the vase. I start filling with greenery and bending it into my desired shape.
Then I add the blooms and bend those to fill the bare spots in the arrangement.
Strategy Can Be Helpful, but Keep it Fun!
While I’m describing all of this in a very strategic manner, this is all something that comes pretty naturally as I arrange the florals to my liking.
I hope this guide can be helpful to you, but don’t let it ruin the fun of making these arrangements for your own home. Trust your own eye, and make it beautiful to your liking.
